STATEMENT IN REGARDS TO CONFLICT MINERALS
On July 21, 2010, US President Barack Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Act, which in addition to the regulation of financial markets also obligated companies to not use raw materials from conflict regions (§ 1502).
This includes the publication and reporting obligations for “conflict minerals”: Companies listed in the US stock exchanges must publish the usage of certain raw materials that come from the Democratic Republic of Congo or other neighboring states (Angola, Burundi, Republic of Congo, Rwanda, Zambia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Central-African Republic).
Conflict materials in regards to this law include tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold.
We are aware that the mining of these “conflict minerals” in different countries, particularly in Central Africa, may lead to profits that are used to finance armed conflicts that may result in unacceptable human rights violations.
We have informed our suppliers that we cannot accept products and raw materials that contain gold, tantalum, tin or tungsten from conflict regions. Our suppliers were asked to inform us immediately if they use such “conflict minerals” in their products. All previous confirmations in our supply chain have not shown any deviations from the order. Thus, we assume that ROLEC products do not contain the named minerals from the aforementioned region.
Furthermore, the compliance with this order is a component of our delivery conditions and we have asked our suppliers to guarantee that no “conflict minerals” are used in their supply chain.

Safe implementation of materials throughout the entire value creation chain

In general, chemicals should be produced and used such that negative effects on humans and the environment remain reduced to an absolute minimum.
The European Union implemented this in legislation effective 1 June 2007 with the “REACH” Regulation. It is based on the principal of self-responsibility in all companies who import, manufacture and process chemicals. They are responsible for guaranteeing that their materials and processes are handled in a safe manner. They are obligated to have the materials implemented registered, to collect the requisite data and to pass them along throughout the value creation chain.
Suppliers of articles will fundamentally only have a disclosure obligation if more than 0.1% (w/w) of articles* exported from outside the EU consists of substances on the candidate list published by the ECHA (European Chemicals Agency, Helsinki)(Art. 33).
(*The term articles in this context means articles whose form, surface and design determines function to a greater degree than does the chemical composition.)
REACH and relevance for ROLEC
ROLEC Gehäuse-Systeme GmbH is a “downstream user” and “supplier of articles” under the REACh- Regulation; therefore, there is no registration obligation. Our products do not release any substances. Thus, Art. 7 (1) of the Regulation is not subject to application for us. However, we certainly do meet our disclosure obligations as a “supplier of articles” (Art. 33 REACH Regulation).
The materials and processes (lacquer, powder coatings, adhesives, coolants and lubricants we produce) are exclusively procured in the EU. Customers procuring these materials and looking to use them for applications such as repairs or their own production will receive the respective safety data sheets from our suppliers in compliance with REACH.
We do, of course, have all products procured outside the EU (components and components groups) tested for the potential presence of substances on the candidate list. Should they be present in a critical volume (> 0.1% (w/w)), we notify all parties involved immediately.
Upstream suppliers and REACH
The REACH Regulation means: “No data – no market!”
For Rolec, this means: Our suppliers must be aware that we can only purchase products from them when they have their products tested in line with REACH and can supply the requisite data.
Of course, we also expect our suppliers working outside the EU’s borders – be they importers or manufacturers – to have acted on time to meet these requirements.
All suppliers domiciled outside the EU have been required to have the material compositions and preparations affecting our products tested for substances in the candidate list and to replace them as necessary. The latter has not been necessary thus far; none of our products has required modification of its composition due to REACH. REACH represents a “living system” and is constantly being expanded. We, too, continue to ensure the harmlessness of the materials we use. Thus, REACH is an integral part to all of our processes.

Safety and transparency with the selected material
ROLEC Gehäuse-Systeme GmbH follows all of the standard rules and legal requirements in selecting materials. All standard ROLEC products exclusively use products complying with Directive 2011 / 65 / EU “Reduction of hazardous substances”.
It stipulates that, since 1 July 2006, only electronic equipment may be brought to the market in certain product categories that are free of certain hazardous materials. This particularly applies to lead, quicksilver, chrome-6, polyprominated biphyenyle (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE). Rolec’s product palette has been RoHS-compliant since 1 May 2005.
Tailored to the special requirements in certain sectors and our customers’ core competences, we deliver custom-made solutions that can deviate from our standard products. This guarantees that everyone who places an order will receive the highest level of safety and complete transparency in the composition of high quality ROLEC enclosures.
The specification of the degree of protection of an enclosure is determined by the abbreviation IP (Ingress Protection) and a two-digit code number. The first digit has two meanings: Protection for people and equipment. The second digit has only one meaning: protection against water. As a standard, almost all ROLEC enclosures are designed in protection class IP 65 and IP 66 and thus meet a high industrial standard for series products: that is, the enclosure offer protection against the ingress of water and dust. In addition, many of the ROLEC standard enclosures made of aluminum and polyester can be designed with IP 67 and IP 69K degrees of protection on request.

Scope of protection: Protection against accidental large surface contact with live and internal moving parts, e.g. by the hand, although no protection against intentional access to these parts. Protection against the penetration of solid foreign bodies with a diameter greater than 50 mm.

Scope of protection: Protection against contact between the fingers and live or internal moving parts. Protection against the penetration of solid foreign bodies with a diameter greater than 12 mm.
3 = Small foreign bodies
Scope of protection: Protection against contact between live or internal moving parts and tools, wire, etc. with a thickness of more than 2.5 mm. Protection against the penetration of solid foreign bodies with a diameter greater than 2.5 mm.
4 = Granular foreign bodies
Scope of protection: Protection against contact with live or internal moving parts with tools, wires etc. with a thickness of more than 1 mm.
5 = Dust deposits
Scope of protection: Complete protection against contact with live parts or parts moving internally. Protection against harmful dust deposits. The ingress of dust is not fully prevented but dust shall not penetrate in such quantities as to affect the functionality.
6 = Dust ingress
Scope of protection: Complete protection against contact with live parts or parts moving internally. Protection against the ingress of dust.

Scope of protection: Water that is sprayed at an angle of up to 60 ° on both sides of the vertical must not have any harmful effects.
4 = PROTECTED AGAINST SPLASHING WATER
Scope of protection: Water that splashes against the housing from any direction must not have any harmful effects.
5 = PROTECTED AGAINST JETS
Scope of protection: Water that is directed as a jet against the housing from any direction must not have any harmful effects.
6 = PROTECTED AGAINST STRONG JETS OF WATER
Scope of protection: Water that is directed as a strong jet against the housing from any direction must not have any harmful effects.
7 = PROTECTED AGAINST THE EFFECTS OF INTERMEDIATE SUBMERGING IN WATER
Scope of protection: Water must not enter in an amount that causes harmful effects if the housing is temporarily submerged in water under standardized pressure and time conditions.
8 = PROTECTED AGAINST THE EFFECTS OF CONTINUOUS SUBMERGING IN WATER
Scope of protection: Water must not enter in an amount that causes harmful effects if the housing is continuously submerged under water under conditions that have to be agreed between the manufacturer and the user. However, the conditions must be more difficult than for code number 7.
9K = WATER FOR HIGH PRESSURE / STEAM JET CLEANING
Scope of protection: Water that is directed against the housing from every direction under greatly increased pressure must not have any harmful effects.
The degrees of protection specified for the ROLEC enclosures relate to the unprocessed standard enclosures in the delivery state. Particularly in the case of protection against water (second code number), the test conditions are met if no water or water in a non-harmful amount has penetrated within the specified time of the test. Since the tests of the protection class do not take aging into account, the maintenance of the protection class over the service life of the device is not guaranteed. Temperature changes, such as those that can occur in outdoor weather, are also not taken into account. Such temperature changes lead, among other things, to negative pressure in the housing, and under certain circumstances moisture can be sucked in through the sealing areas. ROLEC has pressure compensation elements ready for installation.
The IK degree of protection is a measure of the resistance of enclosures for electrical equipment to mechanical stress, especially when subjected to shock loads. The IK code is internationally standardized according to IEC 62262 (corresponds to EN 62262, previously EN 50102). There are ten degrees of protection, according to the impact energy that the enclosure can withstand.

UL
Underwriters Laboratories (UL for short) was founded in 1894 and is an independent organization that examines and certifies products with regard to their safety. UL tests products, components, materials and systems to determine whether they meet specific requirements. If this is the case, these products may bear the UL mark, which is subject to a charge, as long as they comply with the specified standards. UL has developed more than 1,300 safety standards, a typical standard for electrical goods not only covers the requirements for electrical safety, but also a broad spectrum with regard to flammability and mechanical hazards. For the certification of its product by UL, a manufacturer must prove that he complies with the specified safety requirements, most of which were developed by UL itself. At the same time, a manufacturer must use an appropriate system to ensure that every copy of his product also meets the specified security requirements.

CSA GROUP
The CSA is an independent standards organization from Canada and has existed since 1919. The knowledge and experience of the CSA Group includes the development of standards, training and consulting services as well as global product testing and certification in all major business areas. CSA develops and maintains more than 3000 standards and regulations related to safety, design or performance. The CSA Group checks conformity with standards and guidelines as well as EMC tests, radio approvals for over 140 countries and environmental simulations.

DNV-GL
DNV-GL (formerly Germanischer Lloyd) operates internationally as a classification society with a focus on shipping, oil and gas and renewable energies. Among other things, they offer type approvals, verifications, performance testing services, certification of all materials, components and systems that are relevant for the safe operation and quality of a ship.

TR DECLARATION (GOST-R)
TR is a regulation with which the reform of the Russian certification system GOST-R is to be carried out.
The countries Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan have created a single customs area. No customs duties are levied on intra-community movement of goods, so special protective mechanisms apply to economic operators in the customs union. Customs clearance of goods that are intended for free movement of goods in the entire territory of the Customs Union only takes place with appropriate evidence of the conformity of the goods to be imported with the regulations of the Customs Union. This confirmation takes place through the implementation of the TR-ZU certification or declaration for the customs union. The assignment to the declaration or certification obligation is based on the customs tariff number and the technical characteristics.

EAC DECLARATION
The EAC certificate of the Customs Union is official proof that the products comply with the harmonized technical regulations - TR ZU of the participating countries (Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Armenia) of the EAEU - Eurasian Economic Union. The Russian TR certification process was used as a model for the new joint certification system. The EAC declaration is a simpler and cheaper way of confirming conformity. This is to ensure that the products meet the safety requirements of the technical regulation of the Eurasian Customs Union and are safe and harmless for the consumer and the environment.
